Job Summary:

To support the Food Safety Quality Manager in the effective running of the site quality department and provide leadership towards continual quality improvement of those programs to meet regulatory, quality system and customer requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

• Be the first point of contact for the food safety quality team and manage team schedule and training
• Manage an effective Environmental monitoring programme for the site.
• Carry out internal audits as per the internal audit schedule.
• Support external audits as considered appropriate.
• Control the inventory and purchase of laboratory equipment required for the quality functions eg: ATP swabs.
• Attend site quality meetings as required eg: daily KPI meetings.
• Site representative for Food Safety Culture.
• Review Quality documentation and paperwork.
• Assist in developing and implementing quality assurance programs to meet production standards and customer requirements.
• Supervise product testing to ensure procedure accuracy.
• Perform competency evaluations for the Food Safety Quality Technicians.
• Monitor and adhere to HACCP plans and prerequisite programs
• Supervise the selection, workflow, training, and development of staff.
• Take responsibility for implementation of corrective and preventative actions as assigned.
• Assist in investigations in non-conformances and customer complaints.
• Conduct plant food safety and security audits; continually look for food safety hazards.
• Enforce plant certification and regulatory requirements (FDA/ODA, Kosher, Organic, Halal).

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of food production quality assurance leadership.
• Minimum 1 years working in a quality environment
• Working knowledge of food safety and quality assurance programs
• Relevant or related field experience or a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Food Science.
• Strong Continuous Improvement experience
• 24/7 operation and must be able to work multiple shifts
• Experience with organic, kosher and halal food production
• BRC or SQF certification required; BRC highly preferred.

Environment:

This position is based in an office and manufacturing setting and could include the following:

• Involve sitting, standing, walking and lifting for long periods of time throughout a shift.
• Occasional work in extreme cold environment.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
