Here are three trends we’re watching:
The APAC foodservice market is expected to bounce back from pandemic-related impacts, expanding by $317 billion from 2021-2025, according to market research firm Technavio. One of the key drivers in the market will be the growth of quick service restaurant chains, according to the report.2 While foodservice operators in this region will remain focused on innovating convenient meal solutions, there is also growing demand for healthier and plant-based options.3
Many foodservice operators focused on their top selling menu items during the pandemic, limiting new introductions. Now, as dining out returns and consumers rediscover an appetite for adventurous foods, restaurants are focused on rolling out new and improved items that offer a new twist on their tried-and-true favorites. Premium toppings, inclusions and new flavor profiles are some of the ways they’re keeping menus fresh and exciting.
Nearly half of consumers say the pandemic has made them more concerned about the environment, and 11% said they have shifted their purchases based on environmental claims within the past year.4 Adding more plant-based, vegan and vegetarian offerings to the menu will continue tobe an important opportunity for foodservice operators.
